The Geneva Convention is another treaty that was established shortly after World War II, but it was the first attempt to address jurisdictional differences regarding aircraft security interests. After the war, aircraft manufacturing nations became concerned about the reluctance of financial institutions to invest in aircraft without assurance that their interests were secure, especially when the equipment was outside the state of registry. As a remedy, the Geneva Convention (not to be confused with the Geneva Conventions of global war law) was signed on June 19, 1948, and went into force on September 17, 1953. It is officially known as the Convention on the International Recognition of Rights in Aircraft and is meant to facilitate financing and to recognize property basis and conditions for aircraft sales.
